Wach BioMatGel Sp. z o.o. w Łodzi Summary Aim. The aim of this study was to evaluate the potential application of a hydrogel for the delivery of trans-resveratrol selected as a model active compound due to its beneficial biological activity and its widespread use in cosmetology. Materials and methods. Hydrogels containing trans-resveratrol were prepared by radiation-induced polymer crosslinking. The effect of resveratrol on the gel fraction and swelling capacity of the hydrogel was investigated. Cytocompatibility studies on human fibroblasts were performed using XTT and Live/Dead assays. Results. Radiation-synthesized PVP-based hydrogel containing trans-resveratrol represents a simple, sterile, and biocompatible delivery system suitable for cosmetic and skin regeneration applications. A resveratrol concentration of 0.1% was considered maximum that did not compromise hydrogel stability while still allowing the release of the active compound. In vitro studies confirmed the absence of cytotoxicity and demonstrated that the released resveratrol supports fibroblast viability. Conclusions. The obtained results indicate the potential of the developed hydrogel as a safe system for the topical delivery of trans-resveratrol.
