Edematous-fibrotic-sclerotic paniculopathy (PEFS) - review of hypotheses related to the occurrence of lesions

Summary
This article describes the basic and leading hypotheses undertaking an attempt to highlight the essence of the occurrence of PEFS. The causes of PEFS are searched mainly in disorders of arterial and venous microcirculation as well as in an insufficient flow of the lymph. The effect of these impairments is the progressive ischaemia of tissues, edema and fibrosis as well as unevenness on the skin surface.
