Study of the literatureMarlena Kurek, Joanna Klonowska Wyższa Szkoła Inżynierii i Zdrowia w Warszawie Summary Adult acne (acne tarda) is an affliction that manifests itself on exposed parts of the body, therefore it is a social and psychological problem. It strongly affects the psyche and has a negative impact on the self-esteem and quality of life of sick people. In regards to people with facial lesions, there may also be disturbances in the emotional sphere, a sense of lower self-esteem, and mood disorders. They may also feel unaccepted by the society. The aim of the study is to characterize adult acne and present its impact on the quality of life of the patients. The scientific literature in the field of dermatology, psychodermatology and psychology was analyzed in terms of descriptions of research contained therein on acne tard and its psycho-social consequences. Articles on the etiopathogenesis, symptoms and treatment of adult acne were analyzed. Concept of quality of life was defined in the paper. The study is intended to be an introduction to the results of the authors´ own research on the impact of adult acne on the quality of life of the patients.
