Summary
Introduction. A thorough selection of cosmetic products - soaps and olives - is recuired while taking care of the skin of a newborn or infant. The paper discusses classes of substances found in cosmetics that are responsible for the therapeutic and skin care profile.
Aim. The aim of the research was to recognize information regarding composition of sodium salts of higher fatty acids, the advisability of introducing essential oil components, sodium chloride and selected plant extracts.
Material and methods. The material for the analysis consisted of soap and olives recommended by pediatricians. The cosmetic also gained a positive opinion of the Institute of Mother and Child in the field of hygiene and daily care of children, available in pharmacies and markets in Łódź.
Results. In caring for children, parents use core soaps which are a mixture of sodium salts of higher fatty acids supplemented with auxiliary substances. Aqueous solutions of these soaps are characterized by alkaline and at the interface (baby skin-sponge) they will lower the surface tension coefficient below the physiological division of 48,0-52,0 mJ/m2. Moreover, soap solutions are characterized by high electrical conductivity and a concentration close to or higher than isotonic (0,9%NaCl).
Conclusions. The comparative analysis requires physicochemical tests related to the activity of the hydrogen ion, surface tension and electrical conductivity of aqueous solutions at the mentioned interface. Certain biopharmaceutical doubts arise from the presence of antioxidants and essential oil components that may cause contact allergies.
