The most important function of pycnogenol is its anti-radical activity. It possess an ability to scavenge free radicals (peroxide and superoxide). By some sources it is considered one of the strongest antioxidants. It affects the regeneration of inactive vitamin C, and protects vitamin E from oxidation, thus prolonging the period of activity of these compounds. Pycnogenol is widely used in cosmetology. It is a component of good skin absorption, high affinity to skin proteins. Research shows that it also does not cause skin irritations and is well tolerated.
