Importance of the effect of diet on the skin in perimenopausal womenMagdalena Kurkiewicz, Aleksandra Moździerz Katedra i Zakład Toksykologii i Bioanalizy Wydziału Nauk Farmaceutycznych w Sosnowcu Śląskiego Uniwersytetu Medycznego w Katowicach Summary Diet has a huge impact on the condition of the entire body, including a very large one on the quality of human skin. The skin of perimenopausal women is particularly vulnerable to the negative impact of external factors, because due to hormonal changes its physiology changes - it becomes thinner, dry and susceptible to infections. Skin diseases characteristic of this period include: atrophic vulvovaginitis, lichen sclerosus of the vulva, facial hirsutism, frontal alopecia, and paroxysmal facial erythema. Therefore, it is very important to supplement both basic nutrients in the appropriate, healthiest form (proteins, fats, vitamins) and to use compounds that mimic the effects of hormones, which the body is depleted of during this period - we are talking about phytoestrogens. These compounds resemble estrogens, which are very important in maintaining a woman´s body in a natural homeostasis; in addition to eliminating troublesome menopausal symptoms, they have a protective effect against osteoporosis, atherosclerosis and have anti-cancer properties.
