Interest of parents in caring for acne skin in their children

Summary
Introduction. Acne vulgaris is the most common skin dermatosis. It affects most people during puberty. Acne in adolescents usually begins between the ages of 14 and 19. Parents have an important role in the course of this disease in their children.
Aim. The aim of this study was to analyse parental interest in treatment, care in children struggling with acne.
Material and methods. The study consisted of an anonymous online survey on parents´ interest in acne skin care in their children. The survey was aimed at parents of children struggling with acne. The survey was conducted between 04.2022 and 07.2022 and had 112 participants. The survey was in electronic form and consisted of 31 questions directed to parents of children affected by the problem of acne vulgaris.
Results. As many as 96.4% of the parents surveyed know that diet has an impact on acne. The vast majority of parents declared that they know what acne vulgaris is (95.5%). Parents refer their children to a dermatologist (59.8%) to correct a skin problem in their children, followed by a cosmetologist (31.3%). The majority of parents surveyed buy their children cosmetics that are suggested by a specialist (58.9%). They most often buy home care products containing zinc (59.9%), acids (36.6%) and retinoids (25%).
Conclusions. The vast majority of parents, in order to help their children with acne, go with them to a dermatologist or cosmetologist. The vast majority of those taking part in the survey are aware of what acne vulgaris is. Most parents only buy cosmetics for their children after a specialist has selected them. Zinc, acids and retinoids are the most common ingredients in the products that parents most buy for their children.
