Browne - cuphea, of the Lythraceae family, includes about 260 species that grow in the wild throughout the Americas. Some species of Cuphea genus are widely used in South American and Mexican traditional medicine as anti-inflammatory, gastroprotective, antimicrobial, and hypotensive agents. The phytocompounds they contain are of increasing interest to various industries, including the cosmetic industry. In particular, Cuphea seed oils, which are a rich source of medium-chain fatty acids. This review presents a brief description of the Cuphea genus, with emphasis on the potential applications of various cuphea-derived products in the cosmetic industry.
