Summary
Hyperhidrosis, a condition characterised by excessive sweat secretion by the eccrine sweat glands. Hyperhidrosis is a serious condition that contributes to social, psychological and emotional disorders. Depending on the triggering factors, location, cases of hyperhidrosis in the family, and age of onset, the problem of hyperhidrosis is differentiated according to the primary or secondary nature of the condition. Counteracting the problem of hyperhidrosis involves topical treatment, surgical procedures and invasive surgical intervention. Topical preparations applied externally, due to the active ingredients they contain, will block the sweat glands or neutralise the sweat secreted on the skin surface. If the methods used do not show therapeutic effects, such as reducing excessive sweating, other methods are tried. Herbal medicine, i.e. the use of infusions for drinking or bathing and soaking, supports hyperhidrosis therapy. The preparation of plant extracts includes plant materials with valued bacteriostatic, astringent and calming properties. Valued plant materials include sage leaves, oak bark and common nettle leaves. Other therapeutic methods include pharmacological treatment and surgical methods. Botulinum toxin therapy is commonly used to inhibit acetylcholine transmission in nerve-gland connections, but iontophoresis, laser therapy, ultrasound and microwaves are also used. Non-invasive techniques that do not produce results are replaced in further therapy by surgical methods: gland excision or thoracic sympathectomy.
