Effective support for acne vulgaris therapy requires not only the appropirate selection of cosmetic products, but also customer awareness of the active substances used in cosmetics to combat this problem. Knowledge of men and women about the effects of individual active substances is crucial for the effectiveness of therapy and the appropriate use of recommended products. Aim. The aim of the study was to assess knowledge about active substances used in cosmetics to support the treatment of acne vulgaris. Material and method. The diagnostic survey method was used, and the tool used for this purpose was a survey questionnaire. It contained 21 single and multiple choice questions. The researchwas targeted and conducted between December 2024 and April 2025 among woman and man aged 18-60. Results. A significant proportion of people taking part in the study have knowledge about the effects, positive and negative effects of using active substances. A large proportion of women and men reach for cosmetics in the fight against imperfections due to their quick action and minor side effects, mainly in the form of dry skin. Most respondents acquire their knowledge about given substances from the Internet. A large proportion of respondents suggest that cosmetologists should inform their clients in more detail about the effects of active substances. Conclusions. Salicylic acid is considered to be the most effective active substance used in the fight against acne. For this reason, women and men are most willing to reach for it in their skin care routine. Nowadays, the Internet is the main source of knowledge in education in the field of cosmetology. Key words: acne vulgaris, active substances, treatment support |
