Summary
Human appearance has become a remarkable issue, gaining the importance of a valorising factor which makes it possible to estimate quite precisely the physical fitness, mental characteristics and social status of an individual. Therefore, cosmetology is constantly searching for new and improved body and beauty care products, more and more frequently returning to traditional methods of using natural raw materials, especially herbs and their preparations. Natural resources of the plant world still constitute the most precious and abundant source of cosmetic substances which can effectively be used in various forms of cosmetic treatment. The observation of ethnobotanic and archaeological research news, the results of analyses, and the following reinterpretation of properly selected botanic data concerning particular plant species and their potential to be used in modern medicine and cosmetology (beauty treatments) as well as in alternative medicine (e.g. aromatherapy) can greatly contribute to finding new natural cosmetic preparations.

Key words: natural cosmetics, herbal materials, facial skin (complexion), cosmetic (beauty) treatments
