Summary
Aloe extract has antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, regenerating and light-protective properties. The technology of a few creams with aloe has been worked out taking into account its natural light-protective activity. According to literature data, preparations with aloe extract protect skin against harmful UVB radiation and soothe sun irritations and burns.
The aim of the study was to determine pharmaceutical availability of aloenin in freshly produced model creams containing aloe dry extract from fresh Aloe Arborescens Mill leaves.
Material and methods. There has been worked out a technology of model creams with aloe as a natural filter protecting skin against harmful activity of UVB radiation and with d-pantenol and allantoin, biological properties of which are used for soothing burns, irritations and reddening of skin. The creams were also enriched with vegetable oil applied in suntan cosmetics. The analysis of aloenin pharmaceutical availability was performed in the tested creams with a static method based on the dialysis of an active substance through Tomofan, a semi permeable membrane placed in Mutimer apparatus. A direct spectrophotometric method was used in chemical analysis to determine active substances converted to aloenin. Pharmaceutical availability of the tested creams was determined with biopharmaceutical parameters i.e. constant of release rate (k) and half-time of release (t50%).
The results of the tests of aloenin content in the analysed material enable to include this compound to a group of compounds dominating in the chemical composition of Aloe Aborescens plants grown in greenhouses of Herbal Works "Herbapol" S.A. in Klęka.
Moreover, the usefulness of the suggested ointment vehicles was tested on the basis of aloenin release from aloe creams.
Conclusions. The selected Tomofan dialysis membrane gave comparable results in the determinations of pharmaceutical availability and is very useful in testing pharmaceutical availability of aloenin from the investigated creams.
