Hormones are synthesized and secreted by endocrine organs; however, it is the ovary (ovarium) that has turned out to be the most important of them. This organ produces estrogens, gestagens, and androgens. They are essential for the organism and skin to function properly. All disorders of this gland´s functioning are connected with abnormalities which are visible in women´s skin. The most frequent endocrinopathy of the reproductive age is polycystic ovary syndrome. This disorder leads to hyperandrogenisation of women; if untreated it may be a cause of infertility. Key words: PCOS, sex hormones, skin |
