This naturally occurring biopolymer is also applicable in pharmacy and medicine. Hyaluronian is a major constituent of extracellular matrix of many tissues. It stimulates the process of angiogenesis and wound healing by the participation in cell proliferation, differentiation and migration. It is also involved in inflammation, embryogenesis, chondrogenesis, immune response and the progression of neoplastic diseases. The most recent scientific studies indicate its possible application in cosmetic and pharmaceutical nanotechnology particularly as a carrier of medicinal substances, such as doxorubicin which is used in cancer treatment.
