Summary
Introduction. Dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate, a steroid hormone produced by the adrenal glands and hailed as the youth hormone, is a controversial and interesting material for the study of its effect on the actual condition of the skin. Increasing knowledge of DHEAS and its impact on the smoothness of the skin is valuable in the profession of cosmetologist and based on the results obtained, can accurately infer the state of the skin and endocrine disorders, which may be reflected in other responses of the body.
Aim. The aim of this study was to assess changes in one of the characteristics of the skin (smoothness) depending on the concentration of DHEAS in the blood, which may affect differences in appearance of the skin, between age groups in the course of the menstrual cycle.
Material and methods. The study involved 57 women in four age groups. Simultaneous measurements were made to check the smoothness of the skin and serum levels of DHEAS in the blood in different days of the cycle. All measurements were performed in the morning, in the same condition and order.
Results. It was found that at the beginning of the cycle the fluctuations of the smoothness of the skin, increasing with age, combines with an unstable concentration of DHEA in the blood on the 5th day of the cycle. At the same time it was found that the most favorable smoothness of DHEA in the blood on the 5th day of the cycle is the concentration in the range of 150-249 μg/ml.
Conclusions. With age, women´s skin is more sensitive to abnormal levels of dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate. Based on the obtained results, it can develop a detailed plan of care, taking into account the increasing with age needs of the skin and prevent the deterioration of the appearance of the skin at the beginning of the menstrual cycle.
