Depending on the type of psoriasis and severity of the lesions, there are different methods of the cosmetic care and pharmacological treatment. Skin care products (diverse cosmetics) have a huge impact on improving skin condition. Dermatologists and paediatricians recommend the use of emollients, which complement a local therapy. Aim. The purpose of the survey was to assess respondents´ knowledge and awareness of using conditioning cosmetics in psoriasis therapy. Material and methods. 110 respondents were analysed in respect of their knowledge and methods of using conditioning cosmetics that support the psoriasis treatment. Results. 98 respondents out of 110 take care of their skin with the use of emollients. The most frequent cosmetic formula used to support psoriasis treatment is creams. 63% of surveyed declare that they use emollients once/twice a day and 25% admit to use them more than twice a day. The majority of respondents (77%) find emollients effective in three ways: the skin is more hydrated and soft, inflammatory foci are less visible, itchy skin is less annoying. Conclusions. The majority of respondents believe that the skin care with emollients improves its condition to a great extent. Key words: psoriasis, emollients, cosmetics |
