Biological activity of genistein with cosmetic applicationKatarzyna Adamczyk, Magdalena Jurzak, Agnieszka Garncarczyk, Paweł Antończak Zakład Kosmetologii, Katedry Kosmetologii Śląskiego Uniwersytetu Medycznego w Katowicach Summary Flavonoid genistein exhibit multidirectional biological activity. The agent possess affinity to estrogen receptors ERα and ERβ and is able to modulate activity of endogenous estrogens. Genistein can act both as an agonist and an antagonist of ER by competing with endogenous estrogens of ER binding. Genistein modulates endothelial cell behavior, bone metabolism and exerts anticancer activity in brest and prostate. New aspect of genistein activity is it cosmetic effect on the skin. In vitro studies revealed that genistein stimulates collagen and hyaluronic acid synthesis. Clinical observations show improvement of probants skin density, elasticity and hydratation after regular application of cosmetics with genistein. The agent characterizes also antioxidant and photoprotective activity. Key words: genistein, skin, cosmetic application |
