Summary
Acne vulgaris is the most common skin disease that occurs both among adolescents and adults. It develops due to overactive sebaceous glands, resulting from the presence of Propionibacterium acnes strains, inflammation, hyperkeratinization of hair follicles and excessive production of sebum. External factors that affect its severity include stress, diet or family history. The changes are mostly located on the face, neck, chest, shoulders and parts of the upper limbs. The effectiveness of treatment depends on many factors including the type of symptoms, the presence of scarring or the occurrence of drainage changes. There are many ways of therapy that, after individual adjustment to the patient´s condition, show satisfactory results. Topical treatments include retinoids, antibacterial or anti-inflammatory preparations. It is important to quickly recognize and implement treatment, as acne very often is connected to a high psychological burden of the patient, which can lead to depression and even suicide.
