Podiatry-cosmetological procedures in course of hallux valgusJoanna Klonowska, Michał Wiciński, Eryk Wódkiewicz, Maciej Walczak Wydział Nauk o Zdrowiu, Wyższa Szkoła Inżynierii i Zdrowia w Warszawie Summary Hallux valgus is a deformation within the first radius of the foot consisting in the area of the 1st metaphalangeal joint (MTP I). This deformation negatively affects the quality of life, often causing pain and often affecting gait mechanics. The most effective treatment of hallux valgus is surgical occupation, however in case of many patients contraindications for surgery may occur. In such cases, it is recommended to implement a conservative podiatry-cosmetological procedure, including offloading overloaded and painful areas by choosing the right footwear in combination with the use of appropriate insoles, orthoses or corrective devices and dynamic taping as well as massage and proper care. Conclusions: Despite many possibilities offered by contemporary podiatry and cosmetology, the conservative procedure used in the course of hallux valgus does not prevent the progression of distortion, it only alleviates the discomfort associated with its occurrence.
