Ludwika Rydygiera w Bydgoszczy Uniwersytetu Mikołaja Kopernika w Toruniu Summary Introduction. Radiotherapy is one of the most commonly used anti-cancer treatment. Unfortunately, it does not affect only cancer cells. This metod can cause a number of negative consequences among normal cells in whole organism, which appear also on the skin. These symptoms are often accompanied by unpleasant sensory symptoms. In prevention and treatment of skin lesions, using specialized cosmetics for oncological patients turns out to effective. Aim. Verify literature data on the frequency and symptoms of post-radiation skin damage and to determine patients´ knowledge about availability of specialized cosmetics. Material and methods. Among women from AMAZONKI Association in Bydgoszcz, Koszalin and Torun, a survey was conducted. The questions concerned post-radiation skin damage, specialized cosmetics and their effectiveness. Results. The results of the survey confirm the literature data about post-radiation skin damage. They also determine the effectivness of cosmetics for oncological patients. Conclusions. Proper daily care is necessary in prevention and treatment of radiation dermatitis. It contains the application of moisturizing, soothing and regenerating adequate cosmetics.
