Summary
The phenomenon of hybrid nails lies in their aesthetics and high durability. It is not surprising, therefore, that they are enjoying more and more popularity. Hybrid lacquers are used, inter alia, for lamps emitting ultraviolet radiation. Due to the knowledge about the harmfulness of this radiation, it began to wonder whether the use of UV lamps to perform hybrid manicure can have an adverse effect on our health.
A review of the literature has been made, which showed that the UV radiation emitted by hybrid manicure lamps is not completely neutral to the skin of the hand. There are indications that there is an increased risk of basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma. However, larger-scale research is needed. However, there is no evidence of acne melanoma association with UV radiation. Subungual melanoma, one of the subtypes of acute melanoma, probably also is not associated with UV radiation, because it has been proven that the nail plate retains 100% of UVB radiation and more than 97% of UVA radiation.
Most authors in their works advise against experiments with UV lamps at home, recommending visits to beauty salons and applying protective gloves or cream with a UV filter before performing a hybrid manicure.
