Summary
For over 40 years, intensive work on pigment surface modification has been under way. Both natural and synthetic compounds are used for coating. Thanks to the surface modification, we have managed to change the aesthetic and functional properties of pigments. Hydrophilic ones can become hydrophobic or vice versa. It is possible to create coatings with hybrid properties. Modified pigments are applied to the skin evenly, they cover better and they are applied easily and pleasantly. Coatings improve compatibility with other cosmetic ingredients, improve adhesion to the skin. New forms of make-up cosmetics previously impossible to obtain have been created, including stable liquid make-up in the form of w/Si emulsions, permanent eyeshadows, and waterproof mascaras. The dispersion process in production can be carried out faster and with less energy. Cosmetics have gained longer stability over time. Manufacturers of cosmetic raw materials are constantly working on new pigment modifications. A completely new, very interesting chapter in creating innovative textures of make-up products has opened up before chemists and formulators.
