Coenzyme Q10 - properties and application in cosmeticsElżbieta Potargowicz, Magdalena Staniszewska, Ewa Szerszenowicz Katedra Fizjologii Doświadczalnej i Klinicznej, Uniwersytet Medyczny w Łodzi Summary Coenzyme Q10 is responsible for providing cells with energy and it is also an excellent antioxidant protecting from free radicals harmful influence. Thus, it either prevents cells impairment or, if such impairment occurred, makes it possible for the damaged cells to regenerate. Passing time and stress gradually decrease the concentration of coenzyme Q10. It results in skin weakening, slowering of regeneration processes and appearance of wrinkles. Our knowledge on Q10 role is still broadening and a number of experimental evidence shows that deficiency of Q10 disturbs the activity of tissues and organs. Applying coenzyme Q10 in heart diseases, circulatory insufficiency, hypertension, type 2 diabetes, immunological deficiencies, skin diseases and paradontium diseases, significantly improves patients condition. Special role CoQ10 have in cosmetics and dermatology, widely using protective of CoQ10 against UVA radiation. Applying on the skin coenzyme Q10 penetrate the epidermal cells and effectively protects keratinocytes against oxidative stress. Regular skin treatment with CoQ10 for a longer time decreases the numbers with CoQ10 of already existing wrinkles and days their appearance. Key words: fibroblasts, antioxidants, free radicals |
