Sweet clover application in pharmaceutics and cosmeticsJoanna Borowiecka, Patrycja Jaśkiewicz Zakład Środków Zapachowych Katedry Kosmetologii Wydziału Farmaceutycznego Uniwersytetu Medycznego w Łodzi Summary Yellow sweet clover (Melilotus officinalis) and tall yellow sweet clover (Melilotus altissimus) are commonly found in Poland and many European and Asian countries. The extracts from sweet clover herb contain active components such as: coumarins (the main component), flavonoids, tannins and nitric compounds. The sweet clover herb is a component of herbal medicines used to speed up the healing process of wounds, treatment of thrombophlebitis and varixes of legs. In cosmetics, sweet clover herb is a component of preparations appropriate for oily complexion care (lotions, masks) and sensitive, prone to irritation and edemas complexion care. Currently it is the component of preparations designed to the whole body application (regenerative baths). Anti-edema properties of sweet clover herb enabled its usage as one of the components of creams for painful legs and cellulite reducing preparations.
