Summary
Basing on aloe extract, there has been worked out a technology of model aloe creams, taking into account their enrichment with other moisturising components, which leads to nourishment and regeneration of dry skin.
Diphenhydramine is one of the substances applied in cosmetology. It actively protects skin against the loss of moisture caused by external factors (solar radiation, dry air) and at the same time maintains proper level of skin hydration in its deep layers. Ethereal oils demonstrating beneficial moisturising effect, absorbing well and having antiallergic activity, were also included into the model creams prescription.
The aim of the study was to determine pharmaceutical availability of aloenin in freshly produced model creams containing aloe dry extract from fresh Aloe Arborescens Mill. leaves. Furthermore, the effect of diphenhydramine on aloenin release from the tested model preparations was estimated.
Material and methods. There has been worked out a technology of model aloe creams of moisturising action. According to literature data diphenhydramine is a good hydrator and composes well in the produced creams (no prescription incompatibility). An analysis of aloenin pharmaceutical availability in the tested creams was performed with a static method based on the dialysis of an active substance through semipermeable tomofan membrane in Mutimer apparatus. Direct spectrophotometric method was used in chemical analysis to define active substances converted to aloenin. Pharmaceutical availability of the tested creams was determined with biopharmaceutical parameters i.e. constant of release (k) and half-time of release (t50%).
The results of the tests of aloenin content in the analysed material enable to include this compound to a group of compounds dominating in the chemical composition of Aloe Arborescens plants grown in greenhouses of Herbal Works "Herbapol" S.A. in Klęka.
On the basis of aloenin release from aloe creams, the usefulness of the suggested cream vehicles was also investigated.
Conclusions. The selected tomofan dialysis membrane gave comparable results in the determinations of pharmaceutical availability and it is very useful in the testing of pharmaceutical availability of aloenin from the investigated creams. Dihydramine did not affect the aloenin release from the tested model creams, but according to the literature data it is a perfect moisturising agent.
