Unwanted facial hair is a specific problem, especially in psychosocial aspect. The aim of this research is to analyze women´s motivations to undergo laser depilation of facial hair and subjective assessment of their satisfaction with this procedure´s effect. Material and methods. Anonymous questionnaires were completed by 50 women who underwent laser facial hair removal with diode laser. For the aim of this research a questionnaire was prepared, it contained questions concerning: demographic data, psychosocial problems connected with facial hair, hair removal practices, motivations to undergo laser depilation and satisfaction with the results. Results. As main motivations to undergo laser hair removal respondents considered a few reasons and the most common were: psychic comfort improvement (70%), better appearance (54%) and life comfort (40%). In subjective assessment of laser procedures´ results, most women answered that the obtained effect is satisfactory (45%) or rather satisfactory (48%). Conclusions. Unwanted facial hair is a serious psychosocial problem for women; it causes anxiety, distress and negatively influences development of interpersonal relationships. A wish to improve psychic comfort and appearance as well as a desire to have better life comfort are the most common motivations to laser depilation. Subjective assessment of laser depilation effects showed that the results are good. Key words: hirsutism, laser depilation, motivations |
