Moisturizing properties of selected contact repellents containing natural active ingredientsJacek Arct, Olena Jaglińska, Anna Nałęcz, Katarzyna Pytkowska Wydział Kosmetologii, Wyższa Szkoła Zawodowa Kosmetyki i Pielęgnacji Zdrowia w Warszawie Summary Introduction. Contact repellents are a commonly used product. On the Polish market, repellents based on natural products - essential oils are one of the most important groups. Aim. The aim of the study was to investigate the moisturising properties of selected repellents and to draw the attention of producers to this aspect of the action of insect repellents. Material and methods. The moisturising effect of 6 products, differing in composition and physicochemical form, has been studied. The research was carried out on a group of volunteers, using the typical apparatus - corneometer and skicon. Results. All tested formulas had some moisturising properties. The strongest effect in this respect was the Mosbito emulsion, which contained 4.5% lavender oil. The second in a row was the Chicco spray containing 7.5% citriodiol. Conclusions. It has been found that repellents can have a parallel cosmetic effect, the lack of such products on the market is quite surprising. There was no clear relationship between the type of active substance and the form in the repellents tested. It seems that the cause was lack of full information about the composition of the tested products. Substances that have a direct or indirect moisturising effect have a significant influence on cosmetic activity.
