Sources of vegetable dyes and their use in cosmetology

Summary
Vegetable dyes, varied in terms of chemical structure, constitute a group of compounds present in flowers, fruits and leaves. These substances fulfill many important functions in the life of plants. In cosmetics, initially used for beauty purposes, in the course of time they have gained importance as substances with protective and antioxidant properties, able to strengthen blood vessels and improve the condition of skin. Vegetable dyes, apart from color cosmetics segment, are also a component of skin care products. The present paper discusses the occurrence, importance and application of significant vegetable dyes in cosmetology.

Key words: natural dyes, substances of plant origin, cosmetology
